The Edison: Art Deco Razzle Dazzle
Disney Springs is more than an outdoor mall – it’s one of Orlando’s signature experiences. The 120-acre complex near Walt Disney World offers four distinctive ‘neighborhoods’ of shopping, dining and entertainment. Here, foodies can enjoy celebrity chef outposts, upscale chains and, of course, a few themed places. One of the standout themed venues is The Edison.
Taking its name and inspiration from Thomas Edison, the restaurant pays homage to the legendary inventor with its 1920s throwback industrial décor. Clocks of all sizes, including a giant set piece by the staircase, are on both floors. From our upstairs balcony table, Steve and I had a perfect view of the cavernous, two-level space.
The menu is classic American cuisine – burgers, ribs, carb-heavy sides, etc. For appetizers, we shared the DB Candied Bacon.
Creatively presented on a “Clothesline” and served with sweet and spicy pickles, this is a must-have for its rich maple and black pepper yumminess. Far less memorable are the Cracklins. Other than being a vehicle for house ranch dressing and bourbon barbecue sauce, these fried pork rinds were nothing special.
Thankfully, our entrees did not disappoint. I had The Edison burger, a delicious blend of sirloin, short rib and brisket, topped with white cheddar, Applewood smoked bacon, pickles, lettuce, tomato and Edison Sauce. Steve went for the High-Voltage Chicken Sandwich, named for its sweet and spicy gochujang and jalapeno lime crema. This definitely has some kick, so be prepared. Both sandwiches are served with portions of Burbank Fries so generous, we had enough to take home with us for another meal.
During our meal, a talented trio dressed in Art Deco attire and backed by a DJ entertained the crowd of families and couples. Their lively set, projected on multiple screens, featured pop hits restyled as throwback tunes (think Postmodern Jukebox).
The performers invited guests to fill out a postcard and if they’re celebrating an occasion, they share it on stage. A very nice, very Disney touch.
For dessert, we ended the night with a perfectly creamy Lights-on Dulce De Leche Cheesecake with caramel sauce. Crunchy caramel pearls represent the ‘lights.’
I’m sure Edison himself would appreciate such attention to detail.
